The Monastery of the Holy Spirit has always been regarded as a place where people seek a deeper relationship with God. Our Preached Retreat program provides a rich variety of spiritual presentations for men and women. In these preached retreats, there is a leader or presenters who offer conferences each day, leads prayer and is available for private counseling. A retreat might be designed around a theme of Scripture, contemplative prayer, or some spiritual writing that seems suited to the needs of the individuals involved. They are offered to all seeking to develop a deeper spiritual life.
Our 2007 calendar of retreats provides you with the natural fruits of the contemplative life that is lived by the monk presenters and invited lecturers. The new schedule includes “Weekend Retreats” – Friday to Sunday and “Midweek Retreats.” – Monday to Thursday. Make reservations early as some of the more popular programs are filled quickly and you may have to settle for a waiting list in case of cancellations.
These individual and group retreat experiences inspired by the Cistercian Spirituality offer retreatants time to simply be with God in love and listen to him speak personally through the Scriptures. In an atmosphere of silence, you will have time for prayer, journaling, discernment, and quiet recreation in nature by our lakes, on our lawns, and on our peaceful walking trails.
The programs develop the rich traditions of Catholic spirituality. They offer sacred moments in time where God transforms lives. Some retreats provide a quiet and contemplative atmosphere conducive to prayer and reflection while others offer opportunities for sharing and mutual support.
During a special Preached Retreat, the presenter gives a presentation in the morning, followed by suggested readings to be used during the retreatant's personal prayer throughout the day. The day also offers an opportunity to share in the Eucharist, and invites you to spend your day, including meals, in prayerful silence.
Jesus withdrew to a quiet place to nourish his spirit. We believe that Our Lord invites us to come aside awhile—to rest, commune with the Word, listen to some words of encouragement, to pray, and to consider the mysteries of God.
As contemplative monks confronting our own human frailty daily in prayer, we continually experience the healing hand of the Lord in our lives. We offer that healing light to others through our special scheduled retreats.
The joyful sacrament of reconciliation and spiritual direction are available to help you sort out your private life and receive the Lord’s healing forgiveness.
