In this year of 2019, we at The Monastery of the Holy Spirit are celebrating our 75th anniversary of monastic life in Georgia. Through these past 75 years, our world has seen so much change along with many significant events both wonderful and tragic.  Our monastery has lived through these times, prayed through these times, with much trust and faith in God.

We have a heritage for which we are so grateful. Grateful for the many men God has sent to become brothers at the monastery serving the Church and the world in the contemplative life.  Many have gone on to their eternal reward. With the blessing of a rich inheritance, we continue to look to the future as contemplative monks right here in Georgia.

We are also grateful for such heartfelt support from all our friends and benefactors over these 75 years.  We ask all to please join in with us to celebrate and give thanks to God for this gift of monastic life.

INTRODUCTION AND MISSION

Celebrating 75 years of foundation, we, the monks of the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, a community of Catholic men, seek God through a common life of prayer, study, and work giving witness to Christ and the Gospel, in service to the church and the world. We belong to the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (also known as “Trappists”) which is a monastic institute wholly ordered to contemplation.

We are dedicated to the worship of God in a hidden life within the monastery leading a monastic way of life in solitude and silence, in assiduous prayer and joyful penitence as defined in our Constitutions. We are at the “the school of charity” finding the source of inspiration in the Rule of Saint Benedict. We serve the Church and the wider community through our contemplative prayer in silence and solitude, in pastoral ministry, and hospitality to people of all faiths.
