Groundbreaking for new Visitors Center

groundbreakingOn Tuesday May 11, we celebrated the official groundbreaking for the new Public Gathering Space and Visitors Center. The monastic community was joined by elected officials, benefactors, and friends to signal the start of construction of the building project - another milestone in our history.

Featured on the agenda of the ceremony, Abbot Francis gave some introductory remarks, followed by a welcome address by Richard A. Oden, Chairman & CEO of the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners. Also in attendance were the celebrated Vince Dooley, a long time friend and benefactor of the monastery who was joined by the city of Conyers Mayor, Randy Mills and others offering their personal comments to commemorate this significant event.

The Most Reverend Wilton D. Gregory, Archbishop of Atlanta along with The Most Reverend J. Kevin Boland, Bishop of Savannah and Archbishop-Emeritus Donoghue was in attendance sharing their support for our Season of Renewal Campaign and building project.

Activities marking the official kickoff of the construction work included the signing of the guest book as well as a review of the architectural rendering of the buildings. The ceremony concluded with the official symbolic shovel-brigade marking the start of the construction project.
